5 Steps to CRM Campaign Planning
Step 1: Customer Selection. Before any marketing tactic is deployed, CRM professionals must first conduct customer analysis. This process follows three stages: customer segmentation, customer profile analysis, and target customer identification. For segmentation, tools like the RFM model or customer dimension filtering can be used. This step is the starting point and a critical juncture of the campaign.
Step 2: Designing Appeals. Building on the customer selection, marketers identify appeal points that resonate with the targeted customers, deciding whether to use emotional triggers or benefit-driven incentives to achieve campaign goals. These benefits are then translated into a campaign theme that effectively communicates to customers. Once defined, the benefit becomes the central thread running through the entire marketing campaign.
Step 3: Detailing Content. Content design is a process guided by the campaign theme, detailing marketing timing, contact points, copy and scripts, promotional offers, and performance analysis. This step is the most time-consuming part of campaign planning and is crucial to the quality of the campaign.
Step 4: Setting Objectives. This involves defining the metrics for measuring campaign effectiveness and setting expectations for outcomes. It is a vital yet often overlooked step. Even the best plan needs data to validate its success. Standards for success might include response rate, ROI, email open rate, or click-through rate. These metrics and specific expectations must be clarified during the planning phase.
Step 5: Resource Preparation. CRM emphasizes customer-centric collaboration across functions. CRM specialists are not the sole participants in marketing campaigns; they act more as initiators and coordinators of execution. Therefore, identifying the resource requirements for the campaign is also part of the planning process.
