How to Prioritize in Guangzhou PR Event Planning?
The "Scale" Strategy: Should Events Aim for Size?
Organizing a Guinness-style event like "Ten Thousand People Eating Oysters" or "One Thousand People Eating Oysters" can create significant impact. Through participants' WeChat Moments, the event can quickly spread across the city. Is such an event effective? In our view, it is excellent—much like the "Ice Bucket Challenge," it certainly attracts attention.
However, there are some concerns. First, as a social charity event, the "Ice Bucket Challenge" had high participation and attention, but for a corporate event, can the same effect and influence be achieved? This is worth considering. Corporate event planning differs from social charity planning; while attention is important, relevance should also be enhanced to leave a lasting impression. Otherwise, the event may stretch resources too thin, wasting manpower and materials, and potentially putting the company in a difficult position.
Second, whether it's "ten thousand" or "one thousand," how many of these participants will become future target customers? Considering that Korean oysters are not a mass-market product and may not yet be a household staple, is a scale-driven event appropriate? Does a somewhat low-end event match the relatively high-end image of Korean oysters? This is the second concern.
The "Premium" Strategy: Should Events Go High-End?
In fact, an event like "Korean Mayor Eating Oysters" was designed not only for attention but also with strong relevance, aiming to combine both effectively. Undoubtedly, a foreign mayor traveling "thousands of miles" to China and acting as a "foodie" in front of hundreds of Chinese citizens demonstrates a spirit of dedication and courage. Such an event naturally garners high attention. By closely integrating the mayor's personal endorsement with Korean oysters in the planning, the relevance is greatly enhanced.
From the feedback after the event, such highly relevant activities played a crucial role in boosting Korean oyster sales in Jinan.
In the eyes of ordinary people, a mayor should be formally dressed and serious, with municipal management as their primary duty. Coming to China to be a "foodie" is not their usual role and may seem inconsistent with their status. However, the more unconventional the action, the more attention it attracts. Thus, creating an event where the mayor steps out of his usual role ensures both attention and relevance. With proper groundwork and design, the subsequent marketing becomes a natural progression.
The "Distinctive" Strategy: Should Events Be Unique?
If the "Scale" strategy suits mass-market products and the "Premium" strategy suits high-end products, then the "Distinctive" strategy can encompass both. For example, "Beauty Eating Oysters" or "Newlyweds Eating Oysters" are distinctive strategies. These themes can be adapted to either high-end or mass-market positioning.
These ideas are all valid, but how can they meet the client's need for widespread publicity? Considering the client's identity, we proposed a bold idea: organize a grand "Distinctive" strategy event.
The "Boutique" Strategy: What You Need Most is Boutique Planning
If your product is mass-market, consider the "Scale" strategy. If your product is high-end or niche, consider the "Premium" strategy. If you want a sharper approach that closely aligns with product features, consider the "Distinctive" strategy.
But regardless of whether you choose the "Scale," "Premium," or "Distinctive" strategy, what you need most is "Boutique Planning." In our era, it is not difficult to create a plan or a decent plan; the challenge is to create one that truly resonates with people, is memorable, and becomes a talking point among your target audience and the city's residents.
