Dalian Art College Turns Performance Venue into Teaching Classroom

Published: 2022-12-13

On May 8, to deepen the innovative reform of art practical teaching and create a new model of talent cultivation using programs as a carrier, Dalian Art College took the opportunity of re-performing its original oratorio Spirit of Cherry Blossoms to carry out a multi-disciplinary, multi-form on-site practical teaching activity, turning the performance venue into a teaching site.

During the on-site teaching, music performance and musicology majors had classes in the theater. Professional teachers demonstrated and explained on stage how to handle details in a concert and how to make the choir more expressive on stage. Meanwhile, students majoring in broadcasting and hosting and directing from the School of Media also had classes in the theater. Based on their majors and grades, they were divided into six groups: planning and writing, directing and broadcasting, on-site interviewing, photography and videography, stage design, and teaching practice film production, with professional teachers providing hands-on guidance.
After the lectures, as guests arrived, the on-site practical teaching entered the real rehearsal stage. Nearly 300 teachers and students from the School of Music performed the college's original oratorio Spirit of Cherry Blossoms together, winning rounds of applause from the audience. Students from the School of Media were engaged in photography, videography, editing, and interviewing teachers and audience members. Liaoning TV's broadcast truck was also brought to this special teaching site, where directors guided students in operating professional equipment inside the truck. The directing students were deeply absorbed. The students expressed that they had never imagined having class inside a TV broadcast truck and getting hands-on experience with such high-end professional equipment, and they were extremely excited.
The following day, Dalian Art College's original oratorio Spirit of Cherry Blossoms was performed as a teaching report at the Development Zone Grand Theater, attended by leaders from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Consulate General of Japan in Shenyang, Soka University of Japan, and some Beijing art colleges, as well as local citizens.
Wang Xianjun, chairman of the college, said that on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the college's founding, Dalian Art College will present to society various original practical teaching works such as large-scale dramas, sound-picture dance symphonic epics, and other types. Taking original plays, music, and projects as opportunities, the college will deepen the reform of practical teaching, laying a solid foundation for students to improve their hands-on abilities and quickly integrate into society after graduation.
