Event Design Highlights from the ESPY Awards Season
ESPY stands for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly, an award founded by ESPN in 1993 and held annually. Winners are determined by online votes from sports fans visiting ESPN's website, honoring the best athletes of the past year. The ESPYs are often referred to as the Oscars of sports, and each year the ceremony attracts top celebrities from both the sports and entertainment worlds.
Like the Oscars, the ESPY Awards season brings a host of sponsored and celebratory events surrounding the ceremony.
ESPN Magazine Pre-Party
ESPN Magazine commissioned Katie Lemler of Event 11 to produce and design this Tuesday evening party. The entrance featured a repeating stepped image wall adorned with LED light tubes, topped with an oversized photo of cover star Alexandra Raisman.

A 10-foot-tall video cube at the center of the venue flashed images of "heroes."

The DJ booth was decorated with white LED light strips.

ESPY Red Carpet
Sponsor eBay showcased a brand installation to promote itself as an online retailer. The company designed a shelf displaying merchandise curated by ESPN sports analyst and reporter Maria Taylor.

Capital One sponsored a 360-degree robotic arm camera capable of shooting slow-motion video at 1,000 frames per second.

At the 26th annual ceremony, the ESPYs logo was bathed in bright lights.

ESPN and Vanity Fair Party for Danica Patrick
Patrick is the first woman in American racing history to win an IndyCar race.
ESPN and Vanity Fair hosted a party for Danica Patrick. After dinner, 600 guests gathered under pink and amber lighting.

A shelf decorated with magenta flowers added a romantic touch to the event.

ESPY Post-Awards Party
The post-awards party featured an industrial theme, with a three-story shipping container structure towering over the central bar.

Brick arches added to the industrial look and feel of the party held in Los Angeles.

Bright lights and dancing fountains provided a soft contrast to the industrial design elements.

Lil Jon and G-Eazy (both rappers) performed on a two-story stage flanked by prominent shipping containers.
