Stage and Lighting Design Analysis of 'Super Band'

'Super Band' is the first large-scale band program produced by China Media Group after its establishment, with China Central Television as the core, and jointly created with CNR, CRI, Baidu, Alibaba, CCTV.com, CCTV Music, and ground activities. It presents a branch of China's diverse pop culture and delivers an audio-visual feast.
Program Concept and Format
'Super Band' aims to break the conventional perception of band forms by shaping music idols and popularizing niche music. It also showcases the unique charm of CCTV, subverting stereotypes to create a distinctive pop culture event.
'Super Band' is a brand-new live competition music program. Each episode features two super bands competing in six rounds of exciting performances. Additionally, two pairs of hosts are invited as 'supporting guests' to boost the bands, adding rhythm and variety to the show.
Another highlight in the format design is the integration of Baidu's facial recognition technology into the performances. Using facial recognition and portrait capture, real-time interaction with the audience is achieved. During the live broadcast, viewers can vote for their favorite bands and give likes to individual band members.
Stage Design
The stage design of 'Super Band' draws inspiration from rock's independence, freedom, and unrestrained spirit, ultimately landing on a space sci-fi theme. To reflect the vastness of space, the stage has no borders, providing an immersive experience for all guests and the audience, enhancing the connection between the stage and the audience, and creating the best effect for band performances.

As a music program targeting the younger generation, the overall stage design leans towards a youthful and highly technological aesthetic. The two bands perform on 'UFOs' positioned symmetrically, with a triangular guest area in the middle for performances. The curved commentary area, combined with the mechanical arms on both sides of the studio, forms a futuristic robot shape.

The entire stage integrates rock characteristics and trends, using metal materials and LED outlining to enhance the visual layering and three-dimensionality of the space, showcasing the hardcore charm of rock.

Rendering
The stage of 'Super Band' emphasizes visual tension while aligning with the independent and free spirit of rock bands. Therefore, the main screen imagery and the floor screen are combined to shape the space, with side hanging scenic screens extending the visuals. Accompanied by rhythmically changing lights, it fully expands the concept of space freedom, rendering the vastness and mystery of the interstellar in the studio, symbolizing that both bands and the audience can freely travel in this borderless music world, embarking on a joyful and wonderful musical journey.

Lighting Design
'Super Band' is an innovative program, and its lighting design also makes breakthrough changes. A major highlight is the immersive ambient lighting on stage. Complementing the main visual presentation of the floor screen and main screen, the program creatively uses LED floating glass spheres, resembling planets floating in outer space. The use of LED bee-eye moving head lights creates a brilliant and deep starry sky in this universe. Through immersive lighting, all viewers feel as if they have entered a hidden realm of music, strengthening the cosmic expression of the stage design and delivering a visual impact of robot elements and the universe concept.
Considering the on-site stage effect, the lighting needs to be extremely precise and clever. The stage lighting uses profile moving heads to achieve precise spot lighting on the hosts. Additionally, 350W beam moving heads create a forest of beams, highlighting the bands' expressiveness amidst the interplay of light and shadow. The final result presents the band performances as if freely traveling through the stars, making the audience feel immersed in distant space, with dynamic light and shadow enhancing the overall atmosphere of the program.
