5 Steps for CRM Campaign Planning

Published: 2022-12-13

First: Customer Selection. Before any marketing tactic is deployed, CRM professionals must first conduct customer analysis. This analysis follows three stages: customer segmentation, customer profile analysis, and target customer identification. For segmentation, you can use the RFM model mentioned earlier or use customer dimension filtering as a tool. This process is the starting point of the campaign and also its critical point.

Second: Design the Appeal. Building on the customer selection from the first step, marketers identify appeal points that resonate with the selected customers, deciding whether to use emotional stimulation or benefit incentives to achieve the campaign's objectives. Transform the benefits into a campaign theme that can be effectively communicated to customers. Once the benefits are clear, they will serve as the main thread throughout the entire marketing campaign.

Third: Detail the Content. Campaign content design is the process of detailing marketing timing, channel touchpoints, copy and scripts, promotional offers, and performance analysis, all guided by the campaign theme. This detailing process is the most time-consuming part of campaign planning and is also the key to determining campaign quality.

Fourth: Set Goals. Specifically, this involves defining the metrics for measuring campaign effectiveness and setting expectations for campaign goals. It is a crucial yet often overlooked step. Even the best plan needs data to speak for it. The criteria for defining campaign success might be response rate, ROI, or email open rates and click-through rates. These measurement standards and specific expectations need to be clarified during the campaign planning phase.

Fifth: Prepare Resources. CRM emphasizes customer-centric functional collaboration. CRM specialists are not the only participants in marketing campaigns; they often act as initiators and coordinators of execution. Therefore, clarifying the resource requirements of the campaign is also part of campaign planning.
