Which is more important, "choice" or "effort"? Everyone has their own opinion. Today, Tuoyuan's editor shares a story. Perhaps, in your confusion, you will suddenly see the light and find the answer!
Young man, always remember: choice matters more than effort. Opportunities are not for everyone; the Tuoyuan stage is yours to command!

There was a very diligent young man who wanted to excel in every aspect compared to those around him. After years of hard work, he still saw no improvement and was troubled, so he sought advice from a wise man. The wise man called three disciples who were chopping wood and instructed, "Take this benefactor to Wuli Mountain and bring back a load of firewood you find most satisfactory." The young man and the three disciples followed the swift river in front of the door, heading straight for Wuli Mountain.
When they returned, the wise man was waiting for them on the spot—the young man, drenched in sweat and panting, carried two bundles of firewood on his shoulder, staggering along; two disciples came one after another, the front one carrying four bundles on each end of a shoulder pole, while the one behind followed easily. Just then, a raft came from the river, carrying the youngest disciple and eight bundles of firewood, stopping in front of the wise man.
The young man and the two disciples who arrived first looked at each other in silence; only the youngest disciple, who had rowed the raft, faced the wise man calmly. Seeing this, the wise man asked, "What's the matter? Are you unsatisfied with your performance?" "Master, let us chop again!" the young man pleaded, "At first, I chopped six bundles, but halfway, I couldn't carry them and threw away two; after walking a bit more, I was still out of breath, so I threw away another two; in the end, I carried these two bundles back. But Master, I have already worked very hard."
"I did the opposite," said the eldest disciple. "At the beginning, we each chopped two bundles, hung four bundles on a shoulder pole, and followed this benefactor. My junior and I took turns carrying the load; not only did we not feel tired, but we actually felt more relaxed. Finally, we also picked up the firewood the benefactor had discarded."
The youngest disciple, who had rowed the raft, interjected, "I am short and weak. Even one bundle, let alone two, I couldn't carry back over such a long distance. So I chose to go by water..."
The wise man looked at his disciples with appreciative eyes, nodded slightly, then walked up to the young man, patted his shoulder, and said earnestly, "It is not wrong for a person to walk their own path; the key is how to walk it. It is also not wrong to walk your own path and let others talk; the key is whether the path is correct. Young man, always remember: choice matters more than effort!"
