How to Prioritize in Guangzhou PR Event Planning?
"Scale" Strategy: Should Events Pursue Size?
Organizing a Guinness-style event like "10,000 People Eating Oysters" or "1,000 People Eating Oysters" can create significant impact. Through participants' WeChat Moments, the event can quickly spread across the city. Is such an event good? In our view, it is excellent—just like the "Ice Bucket Challenge," it certainly attracts attention.
However, there are some concerns. First, as a social charity event, the Ice Bucket Challenge had high attention and participation, but for corporate events, can the same effect and influence be achieved? This is worth considering. Corporate event planning differs from social charity planning; while attention is important, relevance should also be emphasized to leave a lasting impression. Otherwise, the event may stretch resources too thin, wasting manpower and materials, and putting the company in a difficult position.
Second, whether it's "10,000" or "1,000," how many of these participants will become future target customers? Considering that Korean oysters are not a mass-market product and may not yet be a household staple, is a scale-driven event appropriate? Does a somewhat low-end event match the relatively high-end image of Korean oysters? This is the second concern.
"Prestige" Strategy: Should Events Go High-End?
In fact, an event like "Korean Mayor Eating Oysters" was designed not only for attention but also for relevance, aiming to combine both effectively. Undoubtedly, a foreign mayor traveling a long distance to China to eat oysters in front of hundreds of Chinese citizens demonstrates a spirit of dedication and courage. Such an event naturally garners high attention. By closely integrating the mayor's endorsement with Korean oysters in the planning, the relevance is greatly enhanced.
Judging from the feedback, such relevance-driven activities played a crucial role in boosting Korean oyster sales in Jinan.
In the eyes of ordinary people, a mayor should be dressed in suits and focused on municipal affairs. Coming to China to be a "foodie" seems out of character and inappropriate. However, the more unconventional it seems, the more attractive it becomes. By creating an event where the mayor steps out of his usual role, both attention and relevance are achieved. With proper groundwork and design, the subsequent marketing naturally follows.
"Distinctiveness" Strategy: Should Events Be Unique?
If the "Scale" strategy suits mass-market products and the "Prestige" strategy suits high-end products, then the "Distinctiveness" strategy can encompass both. For example, "Beautiful Women Eating Oysters" or "Newlyweds Eating Oysters" are distinctive strategies, as these groups can be either high-end or mass-market.
These ideas are all good, but how to meet the client's need for widespread publicity? Considering the client's identity, we proposed a bold idea: organize a grand "Distinctiveness" strategy event.
"Refinement" Strategy: You Need a Refined Plan
If your product is mass-market, consider a "Scale" strategy. If your product is high-end or niche, try a "Prestige" strategy. If you want a sharper approach closely tied to product features, go for a "Distinctiveness" strategy.
Regardless of the strategy, what you truly need is a "refined plan." In this era, creating a plan or a decent plan is not difficult; the challenge is to create one that truly resonates with people, is memorable, and becomes a talking point among your target audience.
